I have a craftsman 21 horse 46 in cut hydro-stat mower. It runs great until you engage mower then it cuts out backfires and almost shuts off any advice greatly appreciated Thanks Slammer

Is it a newer model? Mine will do that if the mower goes into reverse unless you have the key turned to the mow in reverse position. Maybe the reverse sensor is stuck and the mower thinks you're trying to go in reverse and killing the engine.

took the sensor apart on wire harness and it did the same thing. I found the unit that the blade is connected to is coming apart on the pressed bushing,I am thinking this is my problem,any ideas Thanks

Are you talking about the mandrel assembly? If so, I would doubt if that is the reason that it is cutting out when you engage the blade, unless you have a seized up mandrel or idler pulley bearing but you would definitely smell the belt burning if that was the case. Is yours a twin cylinder?

Sounds more like carburetor adjustments to me, that or timing.
