All that grass and a barn for your new tractor! What are you waiting for? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Seriously, a lawn tractor will do all that you need, but for the reasons I and others have stated above, the BX series with a loader would be a great addition to your spread.

don't beleive u can even compare them. i love my sears gt have had it 11 years now, but no way will it do what the b2400. will do and can't even think of comparing them. one is lawn mower the other is a tractor.

OK, your not going to like this but. I think that a garden/lawn tractor is all that you need. The CUT is too heavy for your yard. The big selling point of a CUT is the FEL, you don't need one, so why spend extra for a CUT to just mow grass?? Need a box blade, Home depot has a small one for garden/lawn tractors. I went 20 years of mowing/plowing/tilling with my 2 old Cub Cadet garden tractors. They served me well for my 1.5 ackers. I now have a BX1500, why a 1500, I am digging new drains around the house. To rent a machine is 300.00 a day. I figure 7-10 days of use. So that justified some of the cost.If it wasn't for this, I would still be using the Cub Cadet. Good luck

chucko,

I will agree with others, there really is no comparison. I believe you will be served well by a BX sized machine. However, you certainly could "make do" with a garden size tractor. Here's my spin on the issue:

If you really want a BX and can afford it without any really major consequence to your family (can't afford food...clothes...need to skip mortgage payment...etc.) then I recommend getting one. Life's too short. Trust me, over the life of the BX, you will more than get your money's worth out of it. I also make the following recommendations:

If you're going to opt for a BX, get a loader with it. You will use it. You can't even begin to think of the many uses for it, but once you have one, you will.

I would also see if you could trade in the walk behind roto-tiller for one that fits the BX.

Oh...and get the box blade too, landscape rake if you need it. Do it all at once and put it on the same loan. In 2, 3 or 4 short years, the loan will be paid and you'll be really glad (for a really long time) you've got such a sweet package.

I suppose I should state that I have a B2910 on 2/3 acre, so my judgement might be biased, but I've never regretted my purchase. I don't use it to mow, I have an 18 year old (wow, time flies) Honda HT3813 (paid $3000 back in '86) that does the mowing and light snow plowing jobs quite well, and is still going strong. At the time, I justified about 1/3 of the cost of my B2910 to do jobs I needed to be done, I figured about 1/3 of the cost for jobs "as yet to be named", and the last 1/3 'cause I wanted it. Now, 3 1/2 years later, it's all paid for, a whopping 80+ hours on the meter, and I couldn't be happier. As I said...life's too short. (Feel free to show your wife this last paragraph. If you should opt for the BX, at least she'll know you're nowhere near as crazy as some of the rest of us TBN'ers. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Good Luck.

( I know what can be done with a mower ver a CUT but the problem I am having is the wife will only see the CUT as a 8k mower ver a 4k - mower so you see when I am coming from. She will not take my work on it or a sales guys word so I need to get numbers like cost of ownership over the life of the mower to prove my point.
Any of you guys married to a red head you know how they can be. )

Ok Chucko, its time to stop all this bowing & scraping to the wife and tell her you wear the pants in your house, you want a new Kubota, and for her to take care of the bus driving and you will take care of the tractor buying. And yes I am married to a red head.

Oh by the way, be sure to have a divorce lawyer on retainer. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Maybe you could find a clean used BX 1500 traded in on a larger CUT. That would help on the price issue. Also, a list of jobs you could do with the BX 1500 that a lawn tractor won't do, along with a cost to rent the equipment or hire it out would help. Any gardens, or play grounds for the kids or decks in your future?

Not to knock Craftsmen, because Sears couldn't continue to sell them if they were not a decent product for the money, but a new "premium" GT isn't that much cheaper than a BX 1500, expecially a used one.

If you end up going for a new BX Series tractor, you get a 3 year warranty; longer than for a lawn or garden tractor.

Let us know how this works out. Heck, it's only money and after all it's yours, so we all think you should spend it.

Good luck

Joe

I cannot agree with that. Most people don't know any better and they buy a few acres and the first thing they do is run to Sears and get themselves "a tractor". Never mind that it is not a tractor, just a tractor styled lawnmower, but they got themselves a tractor. Many people do not even know there is a such thing as SCUTs or CUTs. They don't have a clue. The Sears mowers hold up decent under light use and the expectations of this uninformed group is fairly low as well. J
