I stopped and bought a six pack from a grocery store yesterday. It’s owned by a grocery store and attached to it but sort of separate. I thought no one was at the cash register but there was a young guy about 21 years old sitting down behind the register on his cell phone. He made me wait about 20 seconds before he gets up and then sighs as he rings me up. Then he is still standing there after my card was approved as he messed with his phone again. I almost waited to see how long this would go on but finally after about 30 seconds I said “HEY, AM I GOOD TO GO”. He snapped out of it and I left. I’ve become pretty tolerant of cell phones and younger people but this was the first time it’s happened like this. He won’t last long because the grocery chain touts their customer service and hire above average employees usually.

Sometimes can be misleading…

My boss will often communicate by text to individuals or groups via text on company provided phones.

In the early days I turned off the phone when physically at work or silent mode which might as well be off in and around steam boilers, pumps, etc.

A few times I know the public has given me the look for having the phone in my hand.

For calls answering in the name of the company puts that to bed but with text messages how would a customer know it’s company business?

At work every morning during the week you can see the manager, the lead supervisor (made up position for that individual) and the supervisor, (I could be more precise but I am keeping it vague on purpose) all 3 are in one office playing on their phone, I have caught the ''lead supervisor'' playing games on his phone many times. Its a real joke.

I will say that there is another convenience store nearby where I have made an effort to be nice to the clerks, and they have been nice in return.

My level of patience is very thin for this kind of behaviors.
Mine too. I ask them if they are going to help me or do I need to get a manager involved.
Personally, I think phone use should not be allowed when an employee is on duty. It's really getting out of hand these days.

Yesterday my wife & I stopped by a local Dollar General (they're everywhere ) to get a few things. I'm looking in the freezer compartment, back up so I can shut the wide door and almost...almost broke my neck!!! Some employee about 19yo had rolled a mop bucket right behind me. The girl said "excuse me" and kept mopping.
I told the wife imagine if I hadn't caught myself, although I do have a couple small bruises, imagine what I could sue the store for? I'm not the suing type...but still...
