The bumper looks considerably stronger then the frame it's bolted to! Nice job.

.

Yup. I'm not a fan of GM IFS front ends.
Too light duty for a 1 ton truck.

Thanks.

Man, a couple of those pictures bring back some memories. I was a neighbor growing up, looked up at that mountain every day. Even got to the top a few times.

Ohh, and nice job.

Thanks.

Very nice. I enjoyed following your progress through your pictures. I especially admire your attention to detail and effort at reinforcing it in every way possible. Probably the best part was seeing it all done and how nicely it came out!!!

Thanks for sharing

Thanks. It was a stout bumper. I'm sure the truck frame will fail before it bends.

Would have been a much better build had you taken and attached a few more pics!

Very nice.

What are holes in the top of the bumper for where you mounted the brush guard?

The holes are so the sandblasting dust can go up in the pipes, and then when I brush the primor on one side, and then flip it over to do the other, the dust will then come out of the tubes, onto my fresh paint.

Drains? Was my guess. Or fixturing for welding?

.

Yeah its just drains for moisture. I've seen bigger enclosed structures then those pipes fill with water and freeze and crack.
Only took a couple minutes with the mag drill. Love that thing.

Hey Matt, how's it going?

I just happen to be a farmer and a weldor, so I figured I should scatter my knowledge and experience around the internet somemore.

Nice work on the bumper there AK. Ranch Hand or copy cats are about all I see around here, but I really like how yours fits nice and tight to the truck.

Historically not all of my farm repairs have been textbook, but they always get the job done.

Just about every thread I post you jump in and say how impressed you are with me for having all the skills to have done all these projects being how young I am.
Can't you say something else for a change? :D:cool::);)

That really means a lot, Carl. I know we have nothing but respect for eachother.

One day we need to meet up.
Keyboards don't do us justice.

I sure could have used your help on this project in California. As beautiful as your vertical up hill welds look:cool:. We replaced 1-mile of pipe tray in this Chevron refinery. Drove pipe piles, welded plates on top of the pile after cut to grade. Then an I-beam frame. All kinds of vertical up hill welding. I fired the entire welding crew, twice:mad:. Ended up hiring Pipe Fitter Welders to do the project.

That woulda been awesome.
We need to have a voice conversation sometime.
I graduate this june and am considering union career.

One of my best friends has been in the pile drivers here for about 15 years.
He says steam fitters is much better but I like structural stuff.

Steam Fitters is a lot better union. But the Pile Driver's union is easier to get into.
In 1982 another guy, and my self welded all the concrete deck panels together for the City of Dillingham dock. I was making $3,050.00 a week there.
