The same 'dynamo' and regulator may be used on Kubota and other equipment as well. I think they are provided to several makes by one of the large automotive electrical manufacturers in Japan. Then, at least here in the US, there are clones from China for that OEM part.

Look on Ebay for the equivalent Kubota part and research if the part offered on Ebay is also known by the Yanmar part # that you need..

Those components may also appear on other equipment - groundskeeper mowers, generator sets, etc that have a similar small starting battery.

The part is out there, it may just be difficult to identify other applications.

My Yanmar parts shows a Alternator with a built in Regulator. AL-1220. May want to go that route or try and cross it to a automotive Alt-Reg..

thas the one winston, but his shipping costs are almost twice the component cost, it shows though the parts areavailable, Carey, do you have anymore details, I have been considering an automotive alternaor as a retrofit

Ebay-UK lists Winston's seller plus a couple more expensive ones. All three ship internationally from the US.

Hmmm - interesting. I linked to Ebay-UK with the price shown in pounds. But Ebay returns the US site regardless.

Ok, try this: go to ebay . co. uk
search on 124160-77710

Kumar's regulator shows 33 pounds with free shipping. But he's not clear if this is free shipping to the UK for items he lists on Ebay-UK.

Your going to have to call a auto parts dealer and have them check and reference thier line of Alt. to the Yanmar Part # AL-1220. I know Napa in the US. carries a couple models for a yanmar Alt. but doesn't give any details of it. They have a Hitachi Alt. #12272 for a yanmar at 134.00$ US. but doesn't give any details. May try and call them and let them look up the details of it for you. Then check the UK for the model #

I know who this is. There's a 68.00$ Alt for a JD. If you open the link there's a Ad for DB Electrical and that's who you need to talk to. Tell them what your looking to do.
Here's the link if it's not there. Yamaha, Starters Tractor items in DB Electrical-Starters-Alternators store on eBay!
There just next to me in Tenn. and a good friend who has owned a Auto repair shop for yrs. has used them. He also works on all types of Equipment.

Carey, DB are good folks. That's where I bought my starter. However - DB wants $45 to mail the regulator to UK. Bigmog is looking for a less expensive alternative.

Ok I kept pursuing this because I may need this regulator someday.

I see Deere used a similar pancake alternator on their garden tractors. Deere # AM101406 is one of the regulators for those. It has terminal tabs instead of wires coming out. The two tabs labelled AC would go to the alternator, B+ to the battery, L I assume is lamp, and IGN probably turns the thing off when the key is off. I suspect it is similar to the original Yanmar regulator since the alternator is so simple. The alternator just has a permanent magnet spinning inside a circle of coils and puts out AC, to be used with an external rectifier/regulator.

Price for AM101406 on Ebay-UK is about $50 / 36 pounds, including shipping. (+VAT or customs fees?)

I found that Deere # looking on Amazon. They offer several clone versions of Deere # AM101406. Here is the only one with a lot of user comments (not all complimentary). Over-voltage is a frequent comment, one reply said resistance in old wiring is the cause and Deere recommends a relay to get full voltage signalled back to the regulator. I would just run a new wire. Or maybe add a diode (voltage drop) in the output wire.

I have found Amazon reviews to be a valuable source of user information that isn't available anywhere else.

Now- who's going to be brave and risk blowing up their alternator to try this out? :D If that didn't work I would buy the Amazon regulator/alternator combo (under $100).

The reg California is talking about is used on many Yanmar tractors too including my YM14 which didn't have one when I bought it. I looked at buying one but needed something quick so made my own using a bridge rectifier and a capacitor for the interim, which has now been 7 or 8 years..... You could use any of the combination of regs they have as long as it has the 2 ac in terminals and a B+ out which really is all that is needed.

had a look at uk suppliers this morning, all sourcing parts from the states, stupid prices and lead times, so it looks like its time to get the soldering iron out, one home made rectifier comming up

Just buy a cheap($20) Kohler voltage regulator. Most of them are 15amp,and will work fine.Easy to wire up.

well, less than £5 worth of components and 1 diy regulator built, after getting a price of £149-00 from one supplier for the same regulator sold in the states for $35-00, and telling them where to go, decision was made

Wow.

Neat, Bigmog, anybody:

Can you post a circuit diagram for the rectifier/regulator you built from scratch?

Thanks!!!

One of these VS-26MB5A. - VISHAY - Bridge Rectifier Diode, Single, 5 V, 25 A, Module, 1.11 V, 4 Pins | element14 Australia and one of these 47uF 25V 15C Radial Electrolytic Capacitor 16x26 | eBay and a bit of wiring and you're all done. Simples eh? Oh and here's how it's wired. The capacitor goes across the DC output (polarity concious) Google Image Result for https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f5/Diode_bridge_alt_2.svg/2px-Diode_bridge_alt_2.svg.png And all for the princely sum of $10.
