Culvert and landscaping question

I’d make sure there is enough drop on a 40’ run to keep it from building up sediment and clogging. To clear a clog 20’ in will not be easy.

If you want to keep roots out of pipe; pull a piece of copper wire from one end of the pipe to the other end and attach ( bare copper) No roots will enter the pipe.

I understand the copper wire thing, but will that work with a plastic culvert like he is using?

Thats an interesting "trick" with the copper...why does it happen?

If your worried about tree roots then why not go with a smaller bush.
You can get different hedges and let them grow high enough to block or to make the landscaping look natural. Even think of berry bushes or ground covers to blend everything in. when i landscape around my house i make it as easy as possible. i look for plants and trees that need a minimal amount of pruning. I also look for perennials--they might need to be divided but thats a lot easier and cheaper then buying annuals every year. I have also put in bush cherry's and next year the blueberries. i have tied them into the landscaping and it makes things much easier, even when mowing around.

Well if the culvert upstream of you is 18 inch and the culvert down stream is 18 inch then use an 18 inch culvert. Otherwise you will restrict the flow of water with a smaller culvert and I am sure your neighbors will then not be very neighborly.
