Buying Advice Cub (Yanmar) 5234 transmission

I have an opportunity To buy a Cub 5234D w/loader. It has a Defective input shaft on trans. 282 hrs. It's a dealer. I'm thinking that if it was reasonable fix the dealer would do it for the profit.What would an entire transmission cost? I'm confident I could do it myself. They want $2900 for it. Thanks
