Cub Cadet / Yanmar EX3200 meter assembly

Greetings,
My tractor mechanic is stating my tachometer is locked up / froze and keeps breaking cables. The mechanic's part source says at least 1 month for part and may be never if part is discontinued. From my research, the part number would be CY-1A8160-56110 METER ASSY. Online parts distributors I find says "not available" or "back order".
Does anyone have suggestions?
If no mfg part is available, wouldn't aftermarket tach be possible to install?

Just remove the CY in the part number and spend 1/3rd less the cost of MTD markup prices.

Without the CY, it just a Yanmar part number of, 1A8160-56110
