Cub Cadet Volunteer 4 x 4 Check Engine light on

I have a 2013 Cub Cadet Volunteer 4 x 4 (Model 37BM46GD710) with a total of 235 hours. Engine is a 31 HP Kohler Aegis EFI engine. Yesterday, I filled the tank up with fresh fuel (gas). Today after putting 30-45 minutes on the engine since I added fuel, the engine started sounding funny, more like a motorcycle or maybe the way am engine sounds when you get a hole in the muffler or lose it all together. A short time later, the check engine would come on for maybe a minute or two and then go off. If you turn the engine off and then start it again, the engine still sounds the same but the check engine may or may not come on.

The engine also backfires at low RPM.

I've had this similar issue with the engine sounding this way before but only intermittently and I don't recall it back firing. And, this is the first time with the engine sounding this way that the check engine light has come on.

I am assuming it is something to do with the gas since it only started after filling it up with some new gas?

Any suggestions on what to look for and the fix?
