i called a local service guy and he said it sound like an electrical problem..
someone else seemed to think it was electrical and said i should check the battery and the "Stator" or "Stater".. so will remove battery and start there...

Will it run better if you pull the choke out a bit. If so it's a fuel issue.

I think I would check with another "Local Service Guy". The stator is what generates charging current to keep the battery charged. The stator does not function as a current provider to keep the engine running. The coils are excited by being passed over a magnet by the rotation of the flywheel creating an electrical discharge to the spark plugs. You can start the unit, and remove the battery and the unit will still run. When you finally get around to checking the coils play close attention to the wiring connections on the coils. The white wire (connected to each coil)you see is a ground wire and this is what grounds the coils to stop the engine when you turn the ignition key to stop. If you replace the coil(s) the air gap between the magnet on the flywheel and the coil is 8-12 thousands. Do not strike the flywheel with a hammer or other blunt tool. Damage to the charging circuit could/will occur.

Cool Cat,

Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I have a 3205 and mine just started doing the same thing. I had it to the dealer and the only thing did with what I had already done which was, new air filter, fuel filter, blew out all the lines, and cleaned the carb. It ran fine for two times cutting grass until today when it was 85 degrees and it started shutting down.

Thanks,

Joe

Yes, finally figured it out... I had TWO fuel filters; one visible on the key side of the engine cover, near the carb -- i changed that and it did not help any.... Finally took it to a mechanic and he found another Fuel Filter near the transmission and gas tank - it had never been changed so was real gunky-- mechanic could not replace it, so just put a connector in there because we had the other one near the carb that was new...

Hi, sounds to me like a possible bad bearing or two on your deck, causing too much strain on your engine so it wants to kill. I think this may be because you said that when you dissing-age the blades it wants to run again. It is easy to check. Remove the deck. Than remove the blade drive belt. After the belt is removed turn the blade pulley's by hand one at a time. If one of the bearings is worn, it will be harder to turn than the others. Good Luck.
