Cub Cadet SLT 1550
Greetings,
My Cub Cadet SLT 1550 just received a new battery after sitting for a season. Cleaned the air filter and checked gas lines, etc. After a few tries, the engine started and ran for a few minutes. It then died and would not restart. There was no sound at all from the starter, etc. I located a 5 amp fuse which was good, but could not locate any other fuses (20 amp) which I would like to check. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks. Bill

remove batt, take to shop for recharge AND a load test. Latter will confirm if battery is functioning OK. Before re-installling batt, make sure terminal connectors are clean to bright metal and that battery is hooked up correctly. Make sure fuel is clean and fresh.
If starter will still not normally energize, try using a set of jumper cables directly from battery to starter to begin isolating problem cause. May also try removing spark plug to see if engine is hydrolocked.
If still trouble, report back with details and we will try to help further

Battery is brand new and terminals were cleaned prior to battery install. Battery is installed correctly as engine ran for a few minutes then died when driven a few feet. Fuel is good. Not clear about suggestion re: jumper cables "directly from battery to starter". Also, question about removing spark plug to see if engine is hydrolocked, what is that procedure? Thanks for the help. Any idea about location of 20 amp fuse?

"brand new" L&G batts are somewhat notorious for having bad cells as new. Always a good idea to get a fresh one load tested. Also, positive and negative posts can be reversed depending on who built the battery- gotta pay attention to those polarity markings.

If you don't understand procedure for bypassing start circuit with jumper cables, best not to go there. Yuor manual may have some better descriptive detail about such than I can post here...

hydrolocked - cylinder chamber(s) partially filled with raw fuel, etc., not allowing piston(s) to move thru compression stroke, thus "hydrolocking" the engine. Removing spark plug allows liquid an escape route (sprays out when crankshaft is turned).

if there is a 20 amp fuse in your machine, it's location s/b noted in yer owners manual - otw search in area behind dashboard or down by rear axles if yer batt is located under seat.
