HI,

Just replaced the engine in a friends RZT42 and was looking at the PTO clutch. Manual says that the air gap should be .010 to .015. It appears the the gap is over .020.

There are three nuts equally spaced around the clutch and they are spring loaded.

My question is how does one adjust this. Do I just turn each nut the same amount, or is there some rocket science involved. I have included a photo of the clutch.

I would appreciate some advice on how to adjust this.

You turn each one an equal amount and there should be a slot next to each corner where the nut is to check the gap in that location.

Try tightening each nut an equal amount but check the gap for .010 - .015 at 3 points around the clutch in case it's not equal. You may have to adjust 1 or 2 nuts separately if not equal.

OK, took some work crawling around under the mower, but got the clutch adjusted.

Started up the new engine this afternoon. Runs just great.

If you are wondering why a new engine it's because the original Intek 17.5 HP engine's piston was no longer connected to the crankshaft. This is the engine that is all over the Youtube with blown head gaskets that then loose oil and then this happens. In this case, the head gasket was OK, but user did not check the oil level before starting engine.

P.S. I have some good Intek parts for sale.
