Hi Everyone

i too am considering buying a Cub 2544. I got real bad feeling when i heard about the oil changing and tranny filter experience of other members. what models are the comparably priced John Deeres or Huskies ??

And is the Cub's drive shaft a reason enough to place the cub in a separate category from other comparably priced tractors?

thanks

The least of my worries would be the maintenance hardships. There have been several posts of guys who found easier ways to change the oil and such.

I'm not knocking JD... but anything comparable to the 2544 will be twice the price. The shaft drive is a great feature. You get more out of the engine vs. a belt drive. I think CC offers a great bang for the buck.

Bob Mayo on the keyboard..... Bob Mayo (sorry couldn't resist a little Frampton!) A comparable JD would be the 'GT' series @ around $6000. Husqvarna GT's arent bad, but the hydro versions are in the upper $2K range, where you could have a 2042/2544 for that.
G/luck

Why sweat it? The hydro filter doesn't need to be changed until 100 hours as most dealers recommend, not after the 1st 10 hours as stated in the manual. The oil filter will get changed after the first 5-10 hours then every 50 hours after. Surely, you'll find a way to change the oil without it being problematic. Don't give up on a great tractor because the maintenance may take an extra couple minutes /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I wouldn't worry about the maintenance items. There are a few tips and tricks that will help (thanks to previous posts), but the first oil & trany filter change on my 2544 wasn't too bad. Now that I know what I'm doing, the next will be a cake walk. The 2544 is a heck of a unit for the price.
