Cub Cadet 2185 Pto to Deck belt breaking

Does anyone have any Ideas on why my Cub is Breaking PTO to Deck Belts, This is a 1994 model and have had belts breaking with less then 2 hrs of usage /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I just recently purchased this Lawn mower it was used. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have a 1995 2140 and I noticed that the two lower guide pullies in front of the engine have to be tracking exactly or it twists the belt. I don't know if the 2185 has the same set-up or if this is your problem but it may be a place to start looking. Good luck.

Yep. Make sure those guide pullies roll freely w/ no wobble or play & be sure the belt is not twisted upon installation. This belt wont last long if it runs flat side down in the front guide pullies.

Does the belt break clean or does it come off a pulley and shred to pieces?

The break is mostly clean..seems like one edge is a little frayed. Any thoughts?

Hi- Big time probs with my 2185 install- can you send me a pic or typs install info- I am having a time installing a new V- belt- hope your problems work out- I had two blades seized on mine.

I had a friend that works on lawn tractors told me a story about the exact same type problem.he found a very small hole in the muffler that was shooting "hot air" right on the belt causing it to break within 2 hours of use.Maybe this will be some help.
