Cub Cadet 149

Dave,
Why would you want to?
I've had both and don't really see an advantage either way.

I had a 149 for 12 years. Good little mower. The electric PTO sounds like a monster project. Why not rebuild your old PTO clutch? If the friction material is gone have it relined, get some new springs and enjoy?!

Even if an electric PTO would physically bolt up to the kohler engine in your 149, I'm wondering if the starter generator on the 149 will supply enough current to keep the electric PTO engaged. I am assuming that the 149 still has the starter generator and is not an alternator type engine used in the later 1250-1450-1650 series.

I always liked the manual PTO better myself.

Ok guys, thanks for replying. I just bought this 149 and wanted to see what the feeling was for that mod.

The control lever for forward and reverse is loose, How do I tighten the lever so it won't drift?

thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,
Go here and download the service manual. There are linkages under the center panel just in front of the seat that can be adjusted/tightened or replaced. That's a common problem on Cubs.

In the upper right hand corner the 149 is grouped with a bunch of other tractors, all with the same manual.

I ran a 149 for 15 years and traded it on an 1862.
It was a real wokhorse!

Good Luck,
Curt
