Cub 5252 running rough in cold weather

My 5252 started running rough when the weather turned much colder. I took the air filter off to check it and noticed that there was a small hose that goes in the carb throat. I took off the air filter mount and saw that the hose was a crankcase vent. When I started the engine there were small droplets of water coming out of the hose. This was going straight into the carb and causing the rough engine. I repositioned the hose to the outside of the air filter. No more rough running engine. I guess this would only affect tractors that are stored in unheated garages.

The 5252 must have a Kholer engine, had the same problem on my craftsman GT with the 20 hp Kholer.I talked to Kholer and they had no idea what I was talking about. I just took the rubber hose end that goes to the carb and folded it in half and zip tied it closed. Then ran a line from the breather to the frame where the water could fall on the ground.It is condensation from the motor heating and cooling off.Check your oil occasionally to make sure there isnt white milkey stuff on the dipstick its oil and water.

adding the gas treatment (isoprohol (sp?) to prevent this moisture buildup will help as well...
