where do you check the tranny fluid on a 149....is there a dipstick somewhere?

There's plug on the back of the differential/transmission. Remove plug, oil should be level with bottom of hole.
MTD still has the owners manuals online for your 149. Click the link below and find the one that matches you serial number.
