Cub 1440

Good Morning,

I am a new member.
I was recently given a Cub 1440 Hydrostatic garden tractor. It has been in a garage for about 2 years and not been run. I have put in new plugs and the battery is strong. It tries to start, but..
1-I get the message that says that PTO is on. I have disconnected it and still get the message. ????
2-I am wondering if the fuel pump needs replacing.

It may be the safety switch is stuck. Also, did you change the fuel? If the fuel has ethanol in it after two years it will be bad. May have to replace the fuel filters if ethanol was used.

Thanks for the info and the welcome.

I will be draining the gas tank as soon as I can find a container large enough.
I also talked with a mechanic at the shop where the tractor was purchased. I am going to clean the carburetor.
I tried putting some gas straight in to the intake and it fired up fine.

for the future I am going to use gas that does not contain Ethanol.

I'll keep you posted.

Welcome to the forum! Good luck finding any. In my area the only non-ethanol gas available is at boat docks and is very expensive.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll check the switch, probably replace it. We have a local convince store chain 'Stewarts" that has ethanol free gas as a possible selection at their pumps which makes it a little more convenient.
