I have a 2006 or 07 Cub Cadet 1000 series LT 1042. I bought it used off of craigslist about a year ago with only 112 hours on it. I now have 140 hours on it. About two months ago when i first started it and press the forward or reverse it would make a loud humming noise and after pressing the reverse pedal a few time it would kick into gear and after that be fine. I also noticed that it started having a very small leak does not look like oil, maybe it is tranny or hydraulic fluid??. I cut grass only once a week and It seems that when it sits for a week or so it takes a few stomps on the forward/reverse pedal to get it going then after that it is fine. It seems that it could be leaking transmission/hydraulic fluid?? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

might want to chk the park brake located on the side of the tranny - they sometimes get crudded up and want to drag.... a good shot of rattle can brake parts cleaner may help.
the leak may be coming from the tranny body somewhere - will prolly need to drop mower deck and use a good trouble light to locate. That tranny's fluid is non-serviceable (not easy to top up) and a tranny running low on oil is a $$ disaster waiting to happen...soon. If your shadetree mechanicing skills are not up to above, might be worth having a competent person ck it out.

I can probally get to the tranny by dropping the deck like you said and taking the top part of the mower apart, seat, fenders etc. I was told that there is a vent in there and you can add oil 20w50 to very slowly. Do you know if that is a true statment?

have seen the same sort of comment here on the forum a time or two... might do a search for same to get more detail.. but, w/o a designed-in oil level ck setup(dipstick or ck plug, etc.), you may error to the opposite by overfilling - use caution.
