If you are not going with leds you will need a realy. You buy a harness kit with a wire, switch and relay.
I appreciate the feedback, but I still don't understand why I need a relay. I thought that relays were only for situations where the switch was not rated to carry the amp draw of the load. Is that not right?
... but now you've got me thinking. If I was to wire a relay to the head-lamp wire, could I then cause the lights to come on and off with the normal head-lamp switch? Or is there an easier way to accomplish that? Hmm.... That would be really nice, from a usability perspective, but also from the perspective of not having to wire in a separate switch.
EDIT: No... now I'm confused again. Why couldn't I just splice a line directly into the headlight hot wire and run it back to my lights? That is, assuming my lights are LED, so they don't add much amp draw, and the headlight hot wire is rated to handle the current draw.
