Craigslist Flakes

I'm amused by the insistence of a lower price than advertised. If I advertised something worth $100 for a dime, people would email me and ask if I'd take a nickel for it.

So, yea, I overprice everything a little and them let them "talk me down". At times it seems like a silly game.

My Son buys low buck vehicles off the back row of dealer lots. Then he fixes them and sells them on Craigslist. Does a dozen a year or so. He always tells buyers to not dicker the price. Saw him walk away from a man and his wife after telling the man twice to not try to dicker the price. Five minutes later they drove back in his driveway and the man apologized and offered him the asking price. Sale made. I'm guessing the man got his butt chewed by his wife for the entire five minutes. :)

I go thru stuff like that all time being that I do direct marketing for a good 6 months a year. And with new tool business it gotten even worse.

I make a lot a deals in my sales work (I have the authority to and the room move on the products) and most times folks aren't even expecting one when I offer it.

Yup the worst thing someone can say at market to me is.. "I will give you this for your item"

All I normally see is overpriced junk. Did go look at a very old square baler once but decided to not buy it. i have not tried to sell on CL, but got a bunch of stuff to sell.

Priced a n old army Jeep trailer to sell. Buyer attempted lowballing me but in the end purchased it.
And that was the only visitor.

Bought set of very nice rims (for snow tires) for my Kia that had not one speck of rust on them, in fact so clean I wondered if they had not been stolen from a store.
Paid less than 1/2 of retail plus no taxes.
That's the second time I locate rims on Craig's list.

I'd just roll the cost of utilities(plus a little extra) into the rent and put "includes utilities!". People are dumb sometimes.

Oh NO , never . The tenants would be awful warm in the winter ,and cool in the summer on my dime . I have a small house a guy rented it , utilities were about $ 100 a month . A girl moved in after he left utilities were average $ 225 a month

I've bought a lot of good things off of CL, and a few no so good. You have to be careful. One trick I picked up on was to look at the backgrounds in the pictures. If I see an orderly garage, a well kept car, etc. there is a higher chance that the item being sold has been cared for. I skip right over the ones with a blue tarp pulled back from a pile of stuff or the ones with weeds growing through whatever it is they were selling. I recall looking at one pile of carp with a picture taken in dim light where I couldn't even tell what it was. Not for me. I also skip over the ones with an unreasonably low price.

I bought my Kubota off CL 4 years ago. Very good price and no regrets.

My motorcycle shop buddy bought a Buell advertised on CL.

Him and me took a two hr drive to get it. Turned out the guy selling had no title!
Definitely needed in Mass. He had just been switching plates to ride it and never registered it.

And the seller said he had gotten it from someone in NH who needed some quick money. Seller did get eventually get duplicate title from original owner and forwarded it but what mess at registry as they wanted to fine my buddy for not registering a vehicle within 30 days and for not paying the associated taxes and fees, completely overlooking the middle guy.

Pretty amazing someone would advertise a motor vehicle for sale without clear title (kind of like not really owning it hey) but even more amazing was that someone like my buddy still wanted to buy it. :confused2:

In the end he did creatively get around the paying the fine and DMV's inflated estimated sales tax.

More headache than it was worth IMHO. :D

I sell on Craigslist more than buy. When selling, I always note how far I live from Lexington, KY which is the town I list with and that it is buyer pickup only. I price my items to move with very little wiggle room if any but more than fair. I do not list my phone but state that I will return emails via Craigslist or calls if the potential buyer gives me a number and if I get a good "vibe" from the inquiry.

I do not respond to "Uze still got the ...." or "what will you take for it?", etc.
