I look at Craigslist every few days, not looking for anything specific right now. But for some reason I always do a search on 'tractor'. Saw this one this morning:
Kubota tractor for sale.jpg
It sold in under 3 hours. Moral: If you see something you want on Craigslist, snag it quick. And if you're actually looking to buy something, check often!

When I'm in the mood for buying I check it often. There's a way to do a search and have emails sent to you when an item with a certain word comes up, like "tractor." I was watching for a golf cart and I think I bought it less than 30 minutes after it posted....my bigger problem is knowing what something is worth...I've lost good deals by horsing around trying to figure out the value and when I'm too late.

I always find it amazing that if you put a low enough price on something on craigslist it always sells and usually quickly. The only thing it doesn't work on is old TV's or big furniture... I can only assume a lot of people are always looking....

Yesterday I put my 2000 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner up on Craigslist. $2k above blue book. Within ten minutes I had someone who was in a rush to buy it. After an hour, I had ten more. Money was in the bank one hour after I posted. Turns out that model is in high demand here in CA.

Location, Location

But that "$2000" tractor could easily sink $6K more by the time it was serviceable.

On the other hand, if you are in the parts business, the wheels ,and loader would double the cost in private sale.

In perspective, There was a vehicle I saw on CL that had a transmission that I could use. Only about 60 miles round trip from my location.

The towing flat bed operator wanted $400 to bring the rig down to me. WTF! the CL price for the vehicle was even with that.

Location,, location.

Missed a Kubota B6200 with loader for $2500 by a few minutes, listing lasted less than 30 minutes and I was 3rd on the list after less than 10 min. I called the next day just to check in and turns out his next door neighbor bought it when he found out it was for sale. Seller had almost a dozen people on the list after a half hour and he said most of us offered to buy it sight unseen.

I've been searching for a loader for my 4110 for a while and recently found a 410 with the 4100/4110 mounts included for $2500 in Iowa. Too far for me but that listing lasted about 6 hours I believe.

I put some stuff on Craigslist cheap a couple of time. Couldn't sell it. The stuff wasn't junk but didn't have a lot of value either. I hated to just throw it out. They have a free section, I finally put the stuff in that section, it turns out free is a good price for everyone since the stuff was gone in less than 24 hours.

Cheap is good, but free is better!

If I find I underpriced something and get a lot of emails with a couple hours that proves that, I will take it off craigslist and refigure the price and put it on again down the road sometime. I hate to do that, but what the hey.

I called about a flail mower 5 hours after it was posted and the seller told me the price has gone up $200 and by the way I can't show it to you until the weekend, I'm going out of town! Why post it if you're not around to show it or sell it?
