I've got a Craftsman Riding Mower that wants to die when you take your foot off the brake or put it in drive or reverse. I spun the belt around once, and suddenly it ran fine, then two minutes later I had the same problem. I think the drive belt is too loose!

Would there be idle pulley not turning/tension which may need care.

I'm not sure, but it does seem like it's some sort of belt tension problem.
