CRAFTSMAN LAWN TRACTOR SEAT SAFETY SWITCH INOPERATIVE

I have an LT1000 craftsman lawn tractor .. The seat safety switch will not shut down the motor when the operator leaves the seat. All the operational switches , clutch , attachment, and seat switch test ok. The tractor starts and operates as it should otherwise. Any ideas on what else to check or how to make the seat safety switch operable.
