Craftsman Lawn Tractor Rear End

I have a Craftsman LT1000 (17 HP Kohler, 42" deck, 6 sp gear tranny) that I'm preparing for the season, but don't have an owner's manual. Is the rear end servicable? I took the rear protective/tow cover off and don't see any drain plugs/fillers, so I'm thinking it's not.

Anybody have a pdf manual for this or similar tractor?

I've had a couple of those rear ends apart and they did not have anything
to drain. They were packed with some kind of grease. If you are not having
trouble with it, I wouldn't do anything with it as far as trying to service it.
I don't have a service manual, but I don't think you really need one.
Just my experience with Craftsman tractors. For what it's worth. elad

I'm not experiencing any problems....just been running the thing for several years while merely changing oil, filters and greasing zerks and didn't know if I was missing anything with the transmission/differential.

I have a 12 hp Craftsman from around 1990. I had to open the rear end to replace the drive dogs. The transaxle on mine is made by Foote and is packed with grease, no oil. My neighbor at the time was a Sears service tech and he clued me in on the drive dogs. They are on a spring lever which eventually looses springiness. Result is no drive/intermittent drive. Simple enough to replace and it's been fine for many years since. Not exactly an impressive piece of machinery to open up!
