Cracked hydro fitting

How do you think they got that fitting on there? They welded it. I don't understand why people have to make it more complicated than it is. He said in his original post that it's 6" away from the end of the barrel. I would take it to someone with a mig welder. I have also seen cracks travel all the way around the weld. For some reason, when you weld a crack on a cylinder fitting, the crack likes to travel right around the fitting as you weld. So, my advice is to have the weld ground down all the way around the fitting, then weld the entire perimeter of the fitting. Drain the oil as best as you can, but don't worry about a little bit left in the cylinder.

I have had excellent results with welding cylinders....both rod ends and barrels. I had to weld both of the steel barrels on the dump cylinders on my FEL and have also had to weld aluminum bodied lift cylinders that were scavenged from a semi trailer car hauler and have used them all almost daily for over 4 years with great results. I am curious why you think the cylinder would be shot if it was cracked at the inlet port? Sincerely not trying to be difficult or argumentative, just curious why you would advise against it?

I was thinking of a crack in the barrel somewhere that the piston must travel over. Anything else is repairable. I did a poor job of articulating that.
