Coyotes, will only stay in a hunting area where they are the dominate animal. Go to your farm supply co. and order some Cougar urine. Dip rags into it and spread them around your farm and they will leave.

ditto., big stick always one in the truck... as for the comments about calfs...I have seen what I think are cross's not pure Coyotes jump into pens with feeder calfs and goats...and I have watched pure Coyotes attemp to take calfs in the field, but you know my big old dogs normally have them for lunch...lol.

My real concern was when he told me he was feeding them! Now that is just plain stupid, like his putting up a nice deer feeder, right next to his truck patch ... the deer love this guy!

When we lived on Whidbey Island we heard coyotes all the time but it was a rare occasion that you ever saw one.

I'll gladly interrupt my deer hunt anytime for the opportunity to blast a coyote. Neighbor's dog (small poodle) was carried away years ago by one. They said it was heartbraking to hear the little fella yelp farther and farther into the woods until the sound was out of ear-shot.

I had a problem with coyotes getting my geese. I keep the geese in a small pasture behind the house and they attacked the geese during the day and killed two of them. Since then I keep my donkeys (5) in the same pasture with the geese.
I killed a coyote last year when I saw it checking things out from across the fence. A 44 magnum does a good job. As long as they stay away I'll leave them alone. When they start getting bold, bye bye coyote.

We have not had any problems to my knowledge of coyotes bothering the calves. We used to have a lama in the pasture with the calves (until he died). Man he hated coyotes he would spit, head butt, and kick them to death. If you want a great watch dog for livestock get a lama.

There are small livestock operations around me and I see a lot of burros and llamas in the pastures. Must be effective as I rarely hear coyote calls anymore. Five years ago we would hear them regularly. From observation it seems that most of the fawns are making it to maturity now also.

We had 8 white tails browsing in the back (<fifty feet behind the house) two days ago and it looked at least 3 generations in the group, 3 or 4 were 2007 fawns.

The neighbor had 6 of his 9 turkeys taken by coyotes a couple months back and one coyote had his border collie cross cornered on the deck till he scared it off. That is brave. The coyotes here are getting very big and brave. They are not the small ones I remeber seeing when I was younger. I wonder if some of these are dog crosses. It used to be when I was snowmobiling they would scatter, now they just stand and look at me with a come on buddy just a little closer kind of a look. We have small dogs and do not let them out of our sight. My niece is a biologist and says that hunting the coyotes just promotes a super breed of animal that are far smarter. It just the dumb ones that get caught and the smart ones breed a smarter generation. If they were killing my animals I'd be shooting anyway.

The really sad thing is that locally some of the worst livestock attacks have been on numerous sheep from pairs or small packs of domestic dogs that are local pets with irresponible owners.
