Okay so here's my story- I am in the process of turning 45 acres of land into a farm with my wife, kids, and parents. I live in the house parents live in a yurt we built. A few hundred yards from the house. We decided we wanted to raise our own beef. Having some Scottish heritage in the family and loving the taste we went with Highland cows. Love the fold we got they're a great bunch and will hopefully taste as good as they look. We then decided we wanted something a little more low impact on the land so we are going to cross breed them with an Irish Dexter bull I picked up. We've run across several references to this crossbreeding and a few people claim to know someone who has done it but I have yet to see or hear direct results from anyone. Has anyone here on TBN done this and any general thoughts are welcome??? Yes I'm crazy I know no need to point out the obvious. :)7

I don't know how well Highlands cross with Dexters but I am told that they cross VERY well with their fellow Scottish breed the Galloways. Galloways are a bit larger though. Very nice animals - very docile.

Here is a link to my little herd of Galloways: http://www.gallowaycattle.ca
