Covid again !!

Bronchitis every October for us.
I had bronchitis this year in january. It was about 8 years since I had it.

I could never shake the wheezing this year from it. I was in the doctors 3 times. First time was two steroids, and a round of antibiotics and a puffer.

2nd round was more antibiotics, steroids, and a puffer with a steroid in it.

3rd round was steroids, and a puffer with 2 steroids in it. Plus he put me on singular.

It was July before I was finally able to stop the puffer. But if I miss a dose of that singular, I'm wheezing again

Bronchitis or pneumonia or Covid can certainly do a number o your lungs. Hopefully in time you will get better!

Sorry to hear that.

A couple times my bronchitis has turned to pneumonia. No fun.

When I was just married, I had something happen to my lungs. Don't know what it was. But if I took even the slightest deep breath, I'd get knife-like pain in my lungs. I had to use an albuterol inhaler for a couple years. It really helped. I was able to maintain an active lifestyle, hold my breath for a couple minutes skin diving, lifeguarding, running, biking, etc... then it just went away.

That was my fear. It ended up being that my lungs didn't get a chance to heal before going into the mother of all allergy seasons this year.

I could go out side at night and point a flashlight straight into the air. It looked like a headlight beam in a blizzard due to the amount of pollen in the air.

I think that this is pretty common. When the lung tissue gets irritated, it gets prone to spasming and the spasms trigger a neurological response that cause more spasms. It can take a long time, even with drugs for the vicious cycle to be broken. It has happened to me more than once.

@Dftodd Given your sensitivity and the high pollen counts, you might want to chat with your doctor about adding a different kind of antihistamine to your Singulair. (I'm not a medical doctor, and don't play one on TV!) Allergic and antihistamine responses are very patient specific with wide variations. Singulair hits one particular pathway, and other drugs like fexofenadine (Allegra), or cetirizine (Zyrtec) hit different pathways. You can read about the pathways on Wikipedia these days, if you are curious. Speaking from experience, sometimes adding more than one antihistamine can achieve a reduction in symptoms that one alone doesn't or can't. Side effect profiles are also very patient specific. You might want to consider a true HEPA (99.97% reduction) filter for your bedroom to give your lungs a break overnight. It helps break the vicious cycle by lowering the provocations to your lungs.

All the best,

Peter

Don't know about the pH level of the blood but when my son in law had Covid for 21 days, nearly died twice, the only doctor that would see him was a gynecologist nurse practitioner who "didn't ever get the flu". She told him that all they had tested at that clinic with the Covid virus were very low on vitamin D. So he now takes a supplement of that every single day. Now I'm also not a doctor or play one on TV but......

The singular has been working. it's when I miss a dose that's the issue

Hell, Team USA just won bronze in the men's 200M while positive with Covid 🤣
Considering videos showing how he energetically pranced onto the track just as they were lining up.....many think the " covid" excuse, after he lost, was made up.

I'm sure the medical people would have a simple pulse oximeter to test the oxygen level in his blood. Normal is 95-100% so running that race may put him in dire need of oxygen.
