Not a bad price on the metal and install. If your going to use it to haul hay you could get some of those horse mats at TSC and cover the deck just for that task. Would give your traction back.

Due to the crack in the bed frame 2' from the rear we decided to strip off the old wood deck so it can be repaired correctly and the welder has given me a price for 3/16th inch steel that ran about 50% more than the quarter inch. Labor will be more depending on what we do to beef up the frame to receive the steel floor.

Most think 1/4" plate would be over kill. We used sawsall, pry bar, sledge hammer and bolt cutters to get the old wood deck removed totally.

Above I should have said the 3/16 plate was about 50% more than 1/8th plate (when leaving old 2x wood deck in place.

Today we got the truck back with the dump bed frame repaired looking straight once again and really beefed up well with NEW 3/16" steel floor. :cool2::thumbsup::cloud9:

I have some pics on the phone but have not retrieved them yet. Before evening we got both the top and bottom side of the new steel and all welds costed with Skyco Ospho which is a protecting rust reformer/primer. I will decide next year if we are going to paint it since when we get to the graveling hauling part I am sure it will be back to bare metal quickly. :)

The guy stayed with the $1150 quote and even built me a nice looking step at the bottom of the fuel tank so I do not need a step stool to get in and out due to the arthritis because the in tank step is too high to reach very well. While the decking was off we changed the two hydraulic hoses going to each cylinder, removed the pond mud looking fluid, flushed the 20 gallon tank, bleed the cylinders and resealed the pump with leaking shaft seals when pump was running.

True! It is so handy that my brother decided with the new steel bed he needed it to help him get out his corn. I told him I thought the dirt/gravel sides would carry one bin (180 bushel). He wanted to line the sides with 4x8' sheets of 3/4" Plyform so we did it was all was still wet from the last 3.5" rain. The two foot standards are made out of channel iron and the sideboards are out of 2 by 8's.

Well late last Sat he filled it and his 700 bushel tractor trailer. I saw it was overloaded so we put a jack under it for the weekend. The truck drove/handled OK but did not want to dump the corn. He had 438 bushels (24,000 pounds) on my old F700. 16' x 8' 4 foot deep is over size for the truck. Now we are staying in the 275-350 bushel loads.

The steel floor is so nice.
