Cover trails in woods with chips?

I use free wood chips from power company for my muddy path. Its the only way to get a floatation surface to drive on without getting stuck. The path its on is on a slope, never had issue getting stuck with wood chips. Only caveat is that it needs to be redressed every 2 years as thats how long it lasts.

We used a load of "free clean chips" a few years ago. Now having problems with bamboo and vines along parts of our trails. In retrospect, it appears our chips were neither clean nor free.
Free chips? no thanks

I put wood chips around our fire pit area and on one of my trails. they are great especially to keep the mud down on my trail.

I use erosion control mulch on some small trails. Not the same as chips, but works great.

ECM=Ground stumps. Approved by Maine DEP for use in erosion control, including replacement for silt fence.
