Roy,
Great looking house, did you build it yourself?

Roy,

Very nice looking log home. I'm envious.... I'll trade ya my Keystone Cape Cod for your Log home. Sound like a deal???

Oh, wait... I guess I need to talk to the wife about this!!! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

How do you like your log walls? Do you have to stain / paint regularly? Did you do the interior walls with logs?

Thanks,
Henry

The house is about 10 years old. We bought the place in Sept 2000, so I can't take credit for building it.

The interior walls are natural log...very rustic looking. When one enters the front door, there is a great room comprised of the living room, dining room and kitchen areas with a cathedral ceiling.
There are two back bedrooms (one is used as my office) and another on a loft.

As soon as we first entered the driveway, we were sold. Upon entering the front door...well, that just really nailed the deal.

The JD 670 is parked in the garage. This little unit really works for us...plenty big for the property but the size doesn't intimidate the wifey.

The house had been treated just before we bought it. We will have to treat the exterior walls in the next year or so...

My in-laws hand crafted their own log home in the '70s. Pealed, notched and pegged the whole thing. I gotta ask, what are you using to treat your logs?

My inlaws used linseed oil for 20 years (thats what they recommended in the 70s) and then switched to Thompson Wood Seal. They had a fire that destroyed the house and the state fire marshal said that the years of linseed oil and Thompson Wood Seal were the main contributing factor in the house being totally engulfed in under 4 minutes.

They have since had another hand crafted log home built for them and use a wood seal/uv protector from a company in Minnesota. If you are using linseed oil or Thompson PLEASE rethink this! If interested, I'll ask the name brand of their protector.

You've got a beautiful home!!

I cannot recall the name of it...wifey has the info, and there is about a gallon in the outbuilding.
However, just to be safe, I would appreciate the name of the sealer you mentioned.
