Regarding methods of melting lead: I've used a wood fire (outdoors) and a $2 pot I bought at a thrift store to melt it.

For those that care, lead melts at 622*. That's not very hot, so any type of fire can get the job done. Back in my plumbing days we did lots of leaded joints. That might explain a lot when it comes to my health.:confused3:
As already stated, lead/vapors is not good to breath. That would have been good info 40 years ago. My dad still has all the lead working tools and lots of lead.
