Not the only danger. Assuming the dog is up on it's rabies regimen, rabies can be rampant in coyote packs in any particular area. A rabid yote attacking the pet can get the virus on the dogs fur. You tend your dog, get rabies on your hands, and although the virus is very fragile, it can still enter your blood stream with a cut or you touching a mucus membrane. Best be sure either your rabies titer is up to date (rare for the average layman) or you follow a strict protocol so as not to spread rabies to your family. That means shots to all who came in contact with the family pet after a questionable contact.
