I know this is a broad question, but please give me some ideas or what you paid. I am in Massachusetts in the middle of buying a rural lot and part of the issue is that I will need to run about 10 utility poles I would estimate across the property to bring in power and cable tv, etc.

Can you give me an idea of what this costs to have done, or maybe what you paid to have yours installed, I am looking for examples or ideas of what you paid, any help is greatly appreciated

I have property in west virginia and had a quote last year from the local power company of 15,000 dollars, but my property is on a mountain top and they have to bull doze a 30 ft right of way down the side of the mountain. so needless to say i will have to keep using my generator until i can save that much money. but with my luck by the time i save that much it will probably be a whole lot more.

In 2006 we paid $4,340 to Central Maine Power and $742 to Verizon for a land line. We have 3 poles about 200' apart plus they had to set a pole at the road because our driveway is between existing poles. That road pole was part of the $4340 charge. I don't know the cable fee, it was not a a lot.

Something to ask about - Here, if CMP sets the poles and strings the lines, they will maintain the trees and lines from the road to your transformer forever. You do have to agree they can use sprays.

We have third party companies who will do the install a bit cheaper, but the tree maintenance is on you. And if a storm takes the line down, you have to get the third party company to fix it.

Good Luck.
Dave.

I would contact the provider and I'm sure they'll meet you out there for you to show them where you want power and they can give you a cost estimate. If it's 10 poles at 300' spans, I would estimate $13 - $15k at least.

Two years ago I ran about 1200 feet, the local utility charged about $2.5/ foot (best I remember). Plus I had to pay for the transformer. So for a 400 amp service to my meter station it cost about $3500. Then another $3000 for the electrician to provide the meter can, two 200 amp breakers and run the wire up the pole in conduit and work with the utility to get it all connected. The wire looked more like three black garden hoses than wire, so the 400 amps is driving extra costs. I guessed about $2000 extra, so at the end of the day, I'd guess about $4000 for a complete install of a more normal 200 amp service here in central texas. Good luck!

As was suggested, call the power company and the phone company and find out what the cost will be. The price may be different between them BTW.

The previous owner of my property put in 4 poles and I finsihed the job with three more. THose three cost approx. $1.5k...which included a step-down, meter and two GFI outlets at the last pole.

Probably not of much help for you, but just a FYI. My grandfather worked for the REA when introduced in rural NC and the first power brought into the local county in 1934. Cost $1,000 per mile - they borrowed $100,000 and ran 100 miles of line. The poles were set approximately 200' apart with some exceptions. Getting right-of-ways was the hard part.

Being a electric lineman I would say $10,000-$15,000 bucks.Call your local power company to be sure.coobie

In reading these big numbers, I feel real lucky for whre I live. I had new service ran to my shop last year, which is 400 feet from my house so I had to pay for an additional stand of primary. In these parts, a stand is 600' and $600.00, or a $1/foot. Some of the best money I ever spent.
