I was performing the 50 hour maintenance today on my CK25. I was doing the things listed in the owners manual and the last item was to check the wheel bolt torque.

The owners manual gives the following torque values:

Rear Wheels 68.6 N-m (7 kgf-m, 50.6 lbf-ft)
Front Wheels 284.4 N-m (29 kgf-m, 290.7 lbf-ft)

I am pretty sure that this can't be correct. For one thing 284.4 N-m converts to 209 lb-ft and not 290 lb-ft. Did they reverse the torques for the front and rear?

Does anyone know what the correct torques should be?

Around 30 lbft would be more like it .

I don't agree. 30 ft-lbs is too little. My pickup truck requires 150 ft-lbs of torque on all lugs.

My 6 lug RV trailer axles require 75 ft-lbs.

I have no doubt that the rear lugs will require more than the front on our tractors. I would not be surprised to see 200 ft-lbs required. The fronts would be less, due to smaller stud diameter. I do believe that they are reversed but I don't know if it is 290 or 200.

Good-n-tite is all I've done on my tractor and I've checked for loosening.

I had the same issue with front wheel studs, striped a few! seems the "translation" is a little off.......... the correct torque is 29.7 ft-lbs. or 30 as iron horse says. Anything near 40 or more, the lugs start to strip.

Factory shop manual says rear torque is 50 ft-lb. They don't give one for the front wheels. It is in the section about changing rears to get a wider track. Other than that, there is only a chart for torques on all sizes and materials of bolts. It you know the size of the studs, you can look it up.

Wow, 30 ft-lbs broke those bolts off? I would not have expected that.

Thanks everyone for the help. I guess I will go with the 50 lb-ft for the rear and 30 lb-ft for the front.

The front wheel bolts/studs measure 0.464 inches. I am thinking that is a 12 mm diameter.

i would be carefull when reading the torque specs in the manuals / hand book. i stripped some studs and nuts on my new EX50 , because either the work shop manual or owners hand book ( cant remember what one) was printed incorretly . these were replace under warranty by the dealer so double check !!
also i have been caught out on some of the fluid qty listed in the hand book are also mixed up in the conversion from gal > lts.
