Have a British built Servis/Rhino 1348 boom flail, and it's way overdue for an oil and filter change. A tag on the unit says to use 15-40 wt., and the book mentions 30 wt., both of which sound kinda strange for a hydraulic unit /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifPaid over $10,000 for this gizmo and really do want to feed it the right stuff. If anyone on TBN has any ideas on the correct oil for this unit, I'd appreciate any replies.

Lots of our older ( 80's production )heavy equipment.. like John Deere rubber tire loaders and such use 30wt oil in the tranny.

Though, as you point out.. I would find out exactly what goes in there before replacing it.

Many gearbox's today do use engine oil. Some hydraulic systems also use the engine oil but they also require an additive to be added to the system when changing the oil completely. My thoughts that if you were using it in a cold climate the multi weight oil might be best.

You must use Rhino miracle synthetic flail oil. $18.00 a quart. Part # 134bryz-4. Good stuff, if you use it you will even attract good looking women and grow hair if you are bald. It fixes everything.

Just kidding, but I would check with the dealer, manufacturer to make sure you are using the right stuff to protect your investment.
