What amazes me isn't the Corona virus but the power of the media.
TV, internet, radio, print has the power to make millions of people panic, controlling their lives in countless ways. The media controls everyone's daily life: who we like or dislike, who we vote for, what we drive, what we eat and tells us who the boogeyman is.
"There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur, or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: There is nothing wrong with your television set. "

My wife had an interesting great uncle, born in the late 1800s. He went to college, became a physician but for his own reasons moved back to the family farm living there as a hermit until he passed forty years ago in his 90s. He was self sufficient, never owned a car but had everything he needed animals, crops, etc there on the farm. He never had electricity, got a TV or newspaper and never knew we had a Great Depression except if he heard something when he walked to town occasionally for supplies. His parents left enough money so he never had a job.
I so wanna be a SA right now but I'll refrain.![]()

...The media controls everyone's daily life:...
We cut ourselves off from the news media a year ago. Our only contact with it now is ocassional streaming of a headline or a few minutes of local radio once a week or so.
Two things I have noticed.
1. We still know what's going on in our World.
2. Within a few seconds of listening to a news reporter it be omes apparent they don't know what they are talking about and are condescending and rude.
I believe my mental health has improved.

Wonder why?? As an aside, other than rimfire 22's and rimfire 17's, I haven't bought any 'factory rounds' in years. I handload everything I use.
