That is the biggest issue. I talked to a couple folks at Costco and they said small businesses were worried about the supply chain drying up.

And I don't understand why someone would refuse to stock up a little TP just like they would with anything else like food. Why is everyone fixated on this toilet paper thing. Fast to ridicule those stocking that and fast to praise those planning ahead a little with food. There are clear pattern emerging from Country to Country with this so far. Seems like many are just itching to boast how their efforts are superior to others. Stocking up enough for, at least, a two weeks quarantine would seem reasonable and prudent at this point. The dumbass neighbors (as someone mentioned earlier) are the ones calling you for supplies because they couldn't be bothered to plan ahead a few weeks and/or spend a few dollars.

I was reading an interview with a canadian toilet paper company exec today. She said there is no shortage in their supply chain. They have plenty of raw materials. They're making plenty. They ship it out daily. It's hoarding at the stores.

Suppose it depends on where you are buying from? You got me curious so I checked our Kirkland (Costco) brand TP and it does not say where it comes from. I found another package of TP in the house from our local Winco grocery store and it says made in USA from local and imported materials. I have really never been so curious as to what exactly I wipe my butt with until now. Thanks Moss!

So, in a nut shell, the supply and delivery chain is not meeting demand. And there is the issue, this isn't as much about the virus as it is about purchasing behavior. Not identifying and planning ahead for this behavior is akin to licking your fingers after pumping gas or holding a fast food debit machine.

I talked with my wife about this yesterday. She was going grocery shopping. I inadvertently discussed the fact that some areas are suffering from a TP shortage based on CV paranoia. She hadn't heard that. After a couple minutes of discussing this I asked her to not contribute to that chaos here by buying more TP than she normally would. She looked at me with that "why would I" look.

At the Hospital we use wipes in the lobby check in areas which now must be done in between admits... the wipes have been back ordered now for two weeks so I went to the local grocery store this morning and no problem... Clorox or Lysol...
In the clinical areas we have much stronger products but they are not wipe and be done as there is dry time and protective protocols.
Alcohol which is a staple for sanitation has been under intense scrutiny the last couple of years from regulators due to fire concerns... We were cited for having several small bottles in close proximity... I'm guessing not as big a problem under present circumstances.

Some good news, new cases and deaths are slowing down to a trickle in China. But it is raging like a wildfire in Europe, especially Italy.

The entire population of China have been holed up and for a couple weeks now. We won't know the outcome of sickness to deaths for quite some time. I understand there's an overwhelming smell of death in many complexes.

The effect is very real no matter personal thoughts.
Most of the senior retirement communities are under lock down... that means NO VISITORS
Medical Supply Chain is being stretched... and workers sent home with fewer left to do the work.
This Saturday the second longest and well loved employee for 40 years of service will be laid to rest... nurses on their own time have been taking turns at the residence so she could remain at home in her final days from Cancer.
The family has schedule a funeral and reception to thank the many that have helped... imagine just retiring and being the care giver for so many over the years both on the job and privately and not more than 6 months learning you have terminal cancer.
I'm thinking what would have been a great life tribute to someone so beloved will have many no longer attending...
I remember her well from my first day on the job 29 years ago...
Similar situations for any number of life events in the world are now on hold... and often now under penalty of law for gatherings... it is the reality.
On a side note it wasn't that long ago when my region was under several protracted power outages... some planned and others not as fire ravaged the State... for many it was a wake up call and I am sure they are better prepared as a result... most markets, gas stations, etc... shut down without power as did many employers...

Widespread COVID-19 outbreak in U.S. would threaten hospitals' finances
I never thought about the financial impact on hospitals. The last time I heard we still just have one COVID-19 patient in KY and that is in the Lexington area. Businesses already looking into the abyss per one report are just going ahead and closing shop especially restaurants. Car sales have tanked and travel firms (airlines, etc) volume have dropped like a rock.
The world may change a lot this spring and never really be the same. I think I read both Europe and perhaps Japan were already staring into the abyss before this happened.
The toilet paper may really be needed if the bad stuff keeps hitting the fan. I can see a 3 trillion deficiency for the USA in 2020.
Global carmakers to invest at least $9 billion in electric vehicles - Reuters
If the virus fall out last a couple years the sales of new vehicles are sure to tank putting this $90 billion investment in question and or even on hold. Retirement funds planned to be spent on the this new bumper crop of EV's may leave by the back door looking at today's stock market running in the wrong direction while we hoard toilet paper of all things.
Maybe we will wake in the morning and things will be all more better.
There is a side to me that thinks this is not a big deal at least yet but if our lives are at risk then our retirement accounts are at risk panic may rule the day for a while. Turning off the news may be helpful.

Several lawmakers expressed concern over the falling price of oil due the virus... saying high priced oil is crucial to the move towards electrics...
After paying as much as $4.35 a gallon in the past for gas I filled up with regular at $2.97 a gallon here in the SF Bay Area... not something I ever expected to see again.
As mentioned... consumption is down and the horrendous commutes are not so bad.
The Transit Agency know as BART has already said it needs massive funding should this continue as ridership continues to fall just in the last 2 weeks...

Kalfornia is still way high. I just filled up my 40 mpg buggy with regular unleaded yesterday here in SE Michigan and paid $1.70 at the pump. Nice cheap date...lol If it stays this way, EV's are going out the back door....
