I Googled "long range phone" and got a couple of other brands.
They are all around 500-1000.
But, you have to remember, these are not your everyday "cordless phones".
Range on some reach 70 miles!

( I am on call for work alot and like to take the phone with me when I'm working around the house. I had a set of AT&T phones 2.4GHZ that had really good range (300 yds.) but the key pads broke after only a year. So I bought a set of V-tec 5.8 GHz because these were supposed to have even better range, but they won't even work in my garage! I am taking the V-tec's back and looking for a new set, any suggestions? Should I get the high dollar Panasonic phones? If I have a good set of phones I can spend more time on the tractor!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

Here's a few sites that may have some useful information

I'll second enGenius. If you want range these will give it to you.

I've seen spread spectrum V-Tec's work in a 600 x 600 plant/whse fairly well. Don't recall the model but there are different models.

As a rule I don't recomend the lower price commercial grade wireless as they are only good for residential use and they are limited at that.

I have an old Panasonic 2.4 and it would really reach out. After getting DSL, I wanted one of the new phones that you just plug the base into the jack and then the remaining units into electric outlets (that way I can avoid those $20 a pop filters). I chose the 5.8 Motorola. I love the features a lot on the Motorola and they will reach over 800 feet as will the 2.4. It seems like I read on the Panasonic that it only uses the 2.4 to send voice back to the phone and 900 to recieve the voice. I know this doesn't make sense, but I'm recalling this from 5 years ago.
Just remember that you generally get what you pay for. A friend of mine has the Siemens system and swears by it. It does seem to be a pretty nice system.

Wow,

I'll have to go against this thread with my recent troubles. Our 2.4gHz phones could'nt handle house to house communications, even inter-house they failed miserably.

Off to the local box store and new 5.8gHz phones did the trick.

Less range but more penetration.

Deerslayer,
The only thing I can add to this thread is that I also owned the V-Tech phones also. They were by far the worst portable phones I have ever owned by far /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Our church secretary is hard on portable phones

Is your church assistant related to my wife? After repeated trips through the pasture muck, our old 900MHz Uniden finally gave up.

The Mrs. picked up a new Uniden DXI5586-2 5.8 and they wouldn't work more than 50' outside the house in my shop.

I bought a set of Uniden DCT646-2, 2.4MHz, which claims to be digital. They are perfectly clear all the way out to 300'± even with the shop in the line of site with the base unit.

My favorite feature is I can add #'s to the phone book in the main unit and then just transfer them to the second unit. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

These can't be legal...otherwise everyone would be making them.

The cordless phones that are designed for use in the US have transmit power restrictions placed upon them and each manufacturer has to meet those sepcs. The long haul phones may not be worth the investment if the FCC finds you using them. Just my .02 worth.

Others have posted before....if you need range, then check out the many cell phone plans.

Wrong again! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif (oh well, don't feel bad, even a stopped clock is right twice a day) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif They are perfectly legal. FCC would not allow them to be used if they weren't legal. They've been used for years, but, like I said, they are not for everyone.
Their main drawback is the price, which puts this squarely in the industrial & business type use.

Here is a site for ultra long range phones but it states that the longer range phones (> 6 miles) are not for use in Canada or the US. It states that they can only sell those if they are to be resold outside the US.

Another company (ACS) advertises long range phones with the statement We have customers using this system in the Bahamas, Mexico, Africa, BVI, Grand Cayman, Taiwan, and more. No mention of the US. Are you sure it is legal?

Edit: Another site that states they are in fact illegal. Plus some other informtion.

Just an update.

I have had lots of engenius phones. They do reach out. But they sure aren't industrial. They are plagued with reliability issues. The batteries won't stay put. The units don't hold up to abuse. They cook themselves.

My best luck has been with Panasonic GigaRange stuff
