I've never used a cordwood saw but have cut too much wood with a chainsaw. I don't have a pulley on my tractor to run an typical old saw so was wondering about making my own- possibly a PTO powered bandsaw type of thing. Anyone with input?
Thanks; Gerald

Stick with the chainsaw, it is safer. If the saw you are referring to is a circlular one they are dangerous. They are made to run with a flat belt so if you have a problem they will slip, no slip with a pto shaft. They also need at least 2 men and 3 are better to safely use them.

Do search a for Buzz Saw here on TBN. You will find several threads on them.
Here is one thread. Click Here
I have sold mine.
After you have run one for a few minutes you will know why its called a BUZZ SAW. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have used a buzz saw for many years and still have all my fingers,I only use it for slab wood or branch wood that is less then 4''. Running a buzz saw is a 3 person operation,1 to feed , 1 to cut and 1 to throw, They are also good to put a sharp end on a fence post. If you want to saw bigger then 4'' use a chain saw. As far as a belt drive, I have a 8n and the large pulley bolts to the PTO and is offset 90 deg's.

Good luck Sam /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

About one year ago I had a friend offer me a 3 pt buzz saw he had in the back of his shed. I told him I would try it and see if I wanted it. As a one person wood cutting operation, it was not as handy as using the FEL to lift and cut with the chainsaw. I brought it back.
