if someone comes in my house at night. I want them to know that they have a good chance of going out in a zippered black bag, or on a bus with flashing lights.. I make no qualms about rigid self defense.

someone attacks me or my familly.. they have just waived all their rights to life... period.. I'll stop shooting when the threat to me and mine is gone. and not before.

if a bad guy gets hurt.. too bad for him. he had other choices... like doing the right thing and not being a criminal... at least for now.. the state I live in backs that up pretty well. florida is self defense friendly...

It's good to let them know SOMETHING is waiting for them; I just don't want them knowing exactly what 2 expect.

We still have a relatively low crime rate here, but that's changing as our drug problems increase. Last month a homeowner had a woman coming to the door saying she'd been in an accident, asking for help; when he stepped out the door her accomplice hit hom with a crowbar. He came up with a 357; end result, 1 robber dead, the other in jail. :thumbsup:

If you don't want to mess with a .357 revolver or a .45ACP, you are not serious about protecting your family or your self.
Why toy around with a gun you can't even find, get something that has some stopping power.
Get serious about self protection, the cops ain't going to stop crime, it is up to you/us

hopefully the one in jail got prosecuted for murder too. around here if 2 robbers break in and one gets killed.. they go for murder agaist the survivor.

i never said I didn't like or didn't own .45acp I have 2 .45 acp semi auto's.

what gun can I not find??? I know where each and every gun I own is at every moment.

stopping power. i guess you don't consider 12g as stopping power?

.44mag as stopping power?

.500SWM as stopping power?

The fact I don't own a .357 revolver does not automatically indicate that I am not serious about self defense. besides. if 4 rounds of 357 don't put somebody down.. what's a 5th or 6th gonna do? beyond that. if they can choke down 5 shells of 000 buck i'm not much sure what options you are left with...

I have more than sufficient fire power to repell a small 'squad' of home invaders at my fingertips while I'm in my house. that doesn't even include my 2 concealed carry guns that while they are in aneminc .380.. that's another 13 rounds going down range into an intruder.

I can't see all that firepower setting there and have someone walk in thinking that if I magically had a 357 revolver there it would be SO MUCH DIFFERENT in an attack situation?

this thread has become crazy.... 357 is the only valid defense weapon? yeah right.. that's why all the police are now carrying them.. military too... forgot about that...

i'll stick to my scatter gun and assortment of other firearms i'm familiar with and a good shot with.. that and high quality self defense ammo...

as for 911.. yeah.. I'll call them after I'm safe to do so...

Sorry, but you're mistaken. If you want guns that big, that's fine, but there are many of us who don't need something that big and powerful. How many police officers do you think carry something like that? I can assure you they are in the minority. 9mm and .38 spl. have long been adequate for most.

You can get the biggest gun around, but it doesn't do you any good if you don't have it near by. Being serious about personal and family defense has nothing to do with caliber and gun size. Serious means getting a firearm of the size and caliber that works for your situation and actually training with it.

Exactly... especially the "training with it" part. It scares me when I hear about some of my friend's wifes starting to carry concealed weapons... I always support them, but also emphasis that it is imperative that they train and shoot continuously. The NC concealed carry course is a start, but without continued training and lots of shooting, that weapon can become more of a threat to the good guys.
