Ford 1620
Hello. I'm a novice tractor owner that owns a 1995 Ford 1620 tractor that I purchased from a dealer in the summer. I love this tractor because I have a 300' driveway and I can clean snow plow my driveway in 20 minutes (compared for an hour with a snowblower).

Well, yesterday (while plowing) the tractor got very hot so I shut it down. I took a flashlight and looked around the tractor and I saw that coolant had been dripping from what looks like the left side up by the front wheel. I put coolant in it and ran it some more and I didn't see a leak after that. In fact, I parked it in the snow over night and I saw a couple of drips but surely not a pool of coolant.

My first inclination is to call someone to come out, take it and go fix it ... but with Christmas coming on I'd rather not do that. All of that being said, are there any ideas? Note that I admit I may not have given all of the information needed so please ask questions if needed.

Thanks!

P.S. This is a great forum and I've used it quite a bit to research my tractor.

Well it may have simply overheated from low level of coolant and by adding May have taken care of it.

You say by the front wheel .. Is this narrow front ?

Agree with blueriver. Keep an eye on it for now. You may not have a problem now.

Thank you.

It is not a narrow front tractor. I was trying to give a reference of where I saw a drip when I said front wheel.

I appreciate it!

I figured so .. Sounds like the coolant overflow from getting hot simply flowed down near the tire... I would also take the time and use your air compressor and blow the radiator fins clear of dust and dirt ... It needs to breath. And as stated keep an eye on things.

Check all your hose clamps, I had a leak and after tightening one it has never reappeared.

Hopefully the dripping was just excess from the overflow tube. Keep watching the fluid level in the near future and use a coolant mixed proportionally with your weather/location. If it leaks again from a pin hole leak somewhere you will have to investigate and find the source. If it leaks from overheating you will need to check the water pump, fan belt, thermostat and even the sensor on the tractor. Try the easy stuff first and work up from there. My little Ford 1215 started leaking fluid a bunch last week and all it was was a loose clamp on the lower radiator hose. The unit is now 19 years old and this is the first time it happened.

check the oil now too...... and continue to monitor coolant and oil for volume or consistency changes to either..
