Looks like a baby Rat/Black snake.

It's definitely not a cotton mouth.

Snake I took outside with long pliers and released it on sidewalk. I'm not sure what it is. I heard even venomous little ones are bad. It had a white mouth.

What area of the country do you live, if we may ask? Would help narrow down the species.

I second a young rat snake, small copperhead would have a yellow tail?
Easy way to tell is to look at the eyes, but I've never gotten that close

I'm gonna guess it's a young eastern king snake, due to the striping across it's back.

We recently took a trip to Switzerland. In the second picture there is a waterfall in the back that gave the sunlight that misty look.
