A lot of them are older and barely laying. I think we get eggs for the first three years, then they "retire" and just sort of hang out. They free range, so there are a lot of eggs that are not in the nesting boxes.

Right now, we're collecting about 6 dozen eggs a day. Two dozen are fed to the dogs every day, and we eat five eggs every morning. 3 for me, two for her.

We have two refrigerators for eggs to get us through the slow season, and we're only have one of them half full right now.

We sell some every week, but my wife is very protective to make sure we have enough saved up for winter.

This picture was taken last year or the year before. My wife is all about the different colors of eggs, so she's always looking for chickens that lay a color we don't have

I'm not really sure. She has a pattern where she puts them in the fridges, and where she pulls them to use. I'm guessing the longest might be two months. By the end of Winter, we're very low and I've even had to buy them from Walmart before the girls really get going again.

Love the various colors. Do you feed the dogs dog food in addition to the eggs? Are they raw or cooked for them? Curious as I had considered feeding more to my pup (8 yrs old). She loves em boiled as I do and will scarf each one I toss her.

Just replaced their nesting box with this one from vevor. I had a hen who has been broody for the last week. Trying to clean up our eggs too.

Have ya'll tried water glassing eggs? I'm thinking of trying it this summer for the winter dearth.

Came across Percy (that's what we named him) while walking the dog on the trails yesterday. I called Fish and Game and he said to leave Percy there because fledgling barred owls can be on the ground and the mom will feed it etc. Went on the same trail this morning and Percy was there again. I called F & G again and he said that this can go on for a couple of days. As I was talking with him, I saw Percy's Mom fly to a nearby tree and perch there. She was watching us, so I figured that she has things under control. Percy was more mobile today, trying to hop away towards Mom's tree and making feeble attempts with his wings.

A couple of terrible shots of about 2 dozen turkey chicks (hidden by fence board) with momma this morning, just about the time I was hoping to get a good pic of them a red tail hawk flew over them and the hen took off flying after it. She flew hot after it for about 500 yards to the creek before she returned and called her chicks into the brush across the road. I knew turkeys could fly but I never knew it was for the distance she did and she flew quite well for a bird of her size.

T\Wild turkeys have a high mortality rate from what shows I have watched regarding their lifecycle. Glad to see she has a lot of chicks/poults there.

My wife and I saw these baby Green Heron's by our barn yesterday. There are three of them, and they just sort of ignored us and walked to other branches when we stopped to look at them. I'm guessing they are about 20 feet away in this picture. Now we're looking up in the trees to see if we can find the nest.
