...and yet somehow they survive. Along with wild horses (estimated 40,000+ in Nevada alone) and antelope and deer and all the other wildlife.

I do find the animals that can live in very arid climates to be very hardy, as they have to be.

We have the red desert here in Wyoming and the same thing, lots of wildlife call that area home. In fact I know a guy that always hunts in the Red Desert and he always gets a deer and elk each year. The only down part of that is, they taste like sage since one of their main food sources is sage brush.

The area is basically just a big rain shadow from the Wasatch Mountains. I suspect where you're at in Nevada the same terrain is caused by the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada's.

I’ve been trying to get a picture of these twins for a few weeks, I got this last night. They just won’t cooperate and pose for me.

Today my photos of nature would be HOT. And miles & miles of dead, tan field grass. Not a pretty picture. So - I will leave it here on the computer.

The "urban" deer around where I live taste different from the true wild deer from up North.
The ones around here have lots of access to different grains and fruit.
Just check out my apple trees and the neighbors corn patch.

So, it's a Hummingbird hawk-moth... I was like How cool.... Then I find out they are loathed by gardeners, the tomato or tobacco hornworm caterpillar that you see munching on your tomato plants will eventually morph into a Hawk moth, or Sphinx moth, each a type of hummingbird moth.

I think I'm on the hunt...
