Like every other creature on earth, Mormon crickets need moisture. Here's a pic I took of a swarm at the edge of Carico Lake in Nevada.

Those of you who haven't experienced Mormon crickets don't know what you are missing!

l believe this is a juvenile American barn swallow. He stopped buy with 15 of his buddies to clean off the bugs on the back lawn.

I believe this same doe is a frequent visitor to the property. She seems to have no qualms about getting close to the house at all. Caught her peeking in the window about a week ago,

When I left city life in California, and moved to Texas, I really expected to see deer everywhere, and even have them in my yard. The biggest disappointment of moving here was realizing that it was very rare to see a deer here.

They eat my wife's flowers and our garden vegetable plants. Mothballs and netting helps.

We put up a small greenhouse last year with a row of cinder blocks and 3' up of hardware cloth around the bottom to keep the critters out.
