Let there be Fireflies!

 

[3 Horse Ranch]

An old wagon road heading north toward the BC interior. I can trace the road from the area of Fort Okanogan through uncultivated land to McLaughlin Canyon, past Tonasket and towards Oroville but lose it in all cultivated land about 10 south of the border This section is an uninterrupted two miles. (The camera is level, that is the slope of the land.)

When I moved here in 1980 on a pitch dark summer night wife & I walked down the road and lots of fireflies so I got my Canon AE1 program. I'm a super amateur photographer and used a tripod and cable shutter release.
I took a photo, then had shutter open 10 seconds, 20,30 then 1 to 5 minutes.
Pictures developed the first was black...few yellow dots. Next few yellow streaks. Last picture looked like daylight. You can read license plate of a car parked at a house.

Got the irrigation pivots moved out of the way and the swather hard at work in the alfalfa. Northern California, just across the Nevada border.

Ha! Another set of my cousin's irrigate alfalfa near Denio! I think they sell it to Californian's.

For anyone who doesn't get to see enough ferns. Please come and get some! I should add that we've been sooooo dry, they are doing poorly. Nomnetheless, some in the middle photo, are 4ft tall.

For years, my wife would buy half a dozen ferns in the Spring to hang around our porch. By the middle of summer, they where all dead. Thankfully, she finally gave up on ferns and she is now wasting money on plants that can survive here.
