By summer they should have their new fronds up. Why would you weed whack a native plant? I'd suggest go weed whack an invasive species.

They are so prevalent that they grow over the trails around here and have to be trimmed back. We made the mistake of planting 4 of them in our flower beds. Now every spring we have to remove dozens as they spread like, well, weeds.

I'm guessing you might have planted them?

They are so prevalent that they grow over the trails around here and have to be trimmed back. We made the mistake of planting 4 of them in our flower beds. Now every spring we have to remove dozens as they spread like, well, weeds.

If you don't whack them back off our trails, you'll not see your feet for the whole hike!

No. We've been here 43 years and they were here then. I see people buying hanging baskets of fern and I want to ask if they would like free ones?
