Just had some Wandering Whistling Ducks show up and they appear to have settled here. They seem reasonably quiet. I've never seen these before. Getting late so pic quality not the best. I did a little vid but it uploaded in poor quality for some reason. Real pretty feathers.

snymat68 - there was a special on the Science Channel about that railroad crossing not long ago. It all boiled down to the bolts that held the legs to the concrete anchors. There is a very high RR bridge about 70 miles south of me. I drive down that way quite often and just once I had my camera and caught the train making the crossing. It's the Lyons Ferry railroad bridge - crossing the Snake River.

I'm not sure you can fully understand how unusual that seems to us Yanks!!!!!

I have White Tailed Deer in my yard daily. Maybe that would seem unusual to you. :D

Nup, sorry. We have red deer around here everywhere. LOL

This is a Koala that lived beside the house for a long time. Sadly he died recently.

Yeah got pretty much everything except squirrels and beavers and bears and mountain lions. I have seen a panther about 10 years ago. Pretty rare.
We even have a Richard... (my brother) LOL

He looked ok in the basket, crazy that he died. It was heatstroke that got him?

You guys have interesting wildlife and vegetation! I like going "sightseeing" via google map's streetview. I checked out various spots via that...north, southeast, the desert in the middle, and Tazmania, all very exotic-looking. One of these days, me and the spouse need to get out there for some realtime sightseeing.

Genev it seems that with the drought, the trees were not able to provide the nutrients that Koalas need. I spoke to a specialist and apparently Koala stomachs are not like other animals. If they are not getting the right food their stomach shuts down and there is no coming back. We think 'Kenny' also had age against him so that didn't help. He seemed quite OK a few days beforehand. I found him just sitting on the ground beside his tree that day.
They also struggle with anything over 38 deg Celcius and have difficulty keeping cool. We provided a cool shelter and water for him and he used that a lot in the hot days.
